2. Choosing your hoop length (diameter): 6 mm, 8 mm, or 10 mm?

The Hoop length (diameter) refers to the length of the hoop across the center. This is what determines how snug or loose the hoop will fit around your ear/nose.

Hoop internal length (diameter)Look & FitCommon Piercing Placements
6 mmUltra-snug fit. Fits extremely close to the skin.Great for Tragus, Daith, Rook, Upper Helix. It is also great for Nostril and 2nd/3rd Lobe piercings if the piercing is closer to the edge
8 mmClassic snug fit. The most versatile and popular size.Helix, Septum, Nostril (standard fit), 2nd Lobe, 3rd Lobe, or a very snug fit in a standard Earlobe.
10 mmLooser / Standard fit. Will hang slightly away from the skin.Standard Earlobe, or a slightly looser fit for Helix/Septum piercings that need more space due to anatomy.

3. How to Measure for the Perfect Fit

Since every ear and nose is unique, the only way to be 100% sure is to measure the distance from your piercing hole to the edge of your ear/nose.

  1. Use a ruler with mm markings.
  2. Place the ruler’s zero point right next to your piercing hole.
  3. Measure the distance to the edge of the ear or nose. This measurement is the minimum diameter you need for the hoop to reach the edge.

Example: If your measurement is 7 mm, you should order the 8 mm hoop for a comfortable fit.

4. What is the Difference: 20G vs 18G?

The “Gauge” (G) refers to the thickness of the hoop wire.

The rule is backwards: The higher the number, the thinner the wire.

Gauge SizeThickness in MillimetersAesthetic/Look
20 Gauge (20G)0.8 mm (Thinnest)Delicate & Minimalist. Ideal for a super-subtle, barely-there look.
